I do hope I'm not spamming you all with screencap posts. I'm a bit under the weather (this is a genteel way of saying that I feel like a stuffed hedgehog), writing isn't going so well, and nothing could be more soothing than watching Hercules episodes and making screencaps.

I've uploaded screencaps for the fourth season Hercules: the Legendary Journeys episodes Hercules On Trial and Men In Pink to my site.

I agree with [livejournal.com profile] elke_tanzer's delight in the more outrageous H:tLJ episodes - I utterly adore Men In Pink. Yes, the plot is lifted almost scene for scene from Some Like It Hot, but I don't mind - that's one of my best-beloved movies, and I love this goofy, affectionate homage to it.

In brief, the plot is that Autolycus and Salmoneus are caught red-handed at a murder scene. In order to stay out of trouble for a while they decide to join the Widow Twanky's dance troupe, and before you know it 'Autolyca' and 'Salmonella' are dancing the 'hootchie-cootchie jiggle-wiggle' dressed in playboy bunny costumes, Autolycus romances a girl called Cupcake with the aid of a poodle and a strategic doughnut, Salmoneus discovers his inner femme fatale and gets hold of a man's family jewels, and there is more innuendo than in the previous two Twanky eps combined.

First sighting of Autolyca and Salmonella.

Bathtime with the girls.

Twanky: "Cupcake! Is this - gentleman bothering you?"
Cupcake: "Oh, no. I was just stroking his poodle."

Twanky flirts with Autolycus. I think this is my favorite shot of the whole episode. *g*

Salmonella gets a little too into it.

Whoof. Um. Yes. Men in makeup good.

Hercules On Trial is a genuine courtroom drama, and it works quite well, I think. Lots of guest stars show up, including Lisa Chappell as both Dirce and queen Melissa, and the prosecutor is very convincing as he makes mincemeat of all the witnesses and tries to convince the jury that Hercules should be sentenced for encouraging rebellion, sedition and generally being too hunky too live. But my favorite bits, predictably, are the moments where Hercules is languishing in jail and Iolaus and Ares come to visit him - Iolaus supports him, of course, even though he thinks Hercules should stop being so noble and just break out, and complains about the prison food even as he's scarfing it down, while Ares comes to offer his half-brother an alliance. You could strike sparks off the delicious tension between Ares and Hercules in this episode, and I love the golden lighting of the prison scenes. :basks:

Gratuitous golden light sparkling on chest hair shot

Gratuitous arms shot

Gratuitous food shot

Wsftgl. What?

Gratuitous 'awww' shot. *g*

One of my favourite lines from that episode:
"And who do we think we are today? Xena and Gabrielle?"

It's been too long since I've seen these episodes. Me thinks I should dig them up and have a Hercules marathon day.

Wsftgl. What?
*gulp* My reaction exactly! And I'm a Herc/Iolaus girl! But damn!

"And who do we think we are today? Xena and Gabrielle?"

Oh, lord, yes. I nearly swallowed my tea at that line. This episode is full of the most wonderful and ridiculous one-liners, but Twanky gets some of the best, as always. "Your body is a temple and I will not brook the sullying of its porticos!" is another.

*gulp* My reaction exactly! And I'm a Herc/Iolaus girl! But damn!

Yeah, me too, but hey, I'm not blind, either. *G*

Have fun re-watching!

Ah, the tension between Hercules and Ares in that episode... Yum..

"You and me? A team? What color is the sky in YOUR world?"
Which is, well, not at all slashy, but still my favorite quote from that episode. :)

And Iolaus all angsty and worried about Hercules... One of the best episodes of HTLJ in my opinion. :)

Oh, it is a great quote. But not slashy? Well. I dunno. I think Hercules enjoys taunting Ares just a little too much, and vice versa. *g*

Hercules looks like he is just about to kiss Ares in that one! Well, that or punch him. Then kiss him.:)

I love Men in Pink. Such a hoot. Autolycus looks damn fine in his princely disguise, and the Widow Twanky just cracks me up every time.

*drools over Herc/Ares shot* C'mon, you knew I'd have to do that, right?

MIP has to be one of the funniest eps of that season. Any ep with men in drag is a good one to me. *G* Great cap of the Widow Twanky! (And how is it that BC looks that good in makeup?)

That Ares & Herc screen cap is just...guh. Glurble. I love that look on Herc's face, like he's so in control and Ares is about to get screwed like the bottom boy he is his ass kicked.

I may not be much into the H/I, but that last cap is so touching, in that awww way, you pointed out.

Love it when you post new caps!

Thanks for the comments! Cheered me up, as am still feeling like a stuffed animal. :-)

Yeah, I think that moment between Herc and Ares works for me so well because they've reversed their usual roles - Herc is all in-your-face, and Ares is looking more controlled. Plus they're wayyy in each other's space. *g*

And Bruce Campbell is just hot in this ep. I don't know if you're a Due South fan, but this scene reminded me strongly of the scene in the fabulous episode "Some Like It Red" where Fraser, also in drag, changes back to his male self in the back of Vecchio's car. The contrast between his short hair and square-jawed, handsome face and the delicate eye makeup and earrrings is just...wstfgl.

Oh yeah, despite being the one in prison, on trial, Hercules was very much in control of his interactions with Ares. Ares could taunt and laugh all he wanted, but it was Herc who had the upper hand between the two of them, and Herc so knew it too. *G*

I'm an absolutely huge DS fan. I came into the fandom right at the end of the show's run, caught all the rest of the eps in first reruns and I've been addicted ever since. (Unfortunately, I also came in on that fandom right in the middle of the "Ray Wars" and that soured me on ever writing for it. Still love to read though.)

Great parallel there, and I think you're very right. Fraser made a very handsome woman (in the female sense of handsome) and I think that Autolycus was a bit of the same way. With a bit more touch up on his makeup and a better wig, he would've been a real eye-catcher. As it was, I still think he was pretty hot that way. (But then, guys in drag is a huge kink of mine. *g*)

Hope you get to feeling better soon!
