I love seeing all the author names go up. Now I can thank [ profile] quasar237 for The First Time is the Hardest, and [ profile] zortified for A Good Day, and [ profile] roga for I Friend You, You Friend Him, and [ profile] falzalot for Festival Day! Woot! I was so, so lucky this year.

I was lucky in my assignment, too, because I got [ profile] vongroovy, who asked for the fandom I had just fallen for, the Real Ghostbusters (the cartoon based on the movie, where Peter is gorgeous and still sarcastic as hell, and Egon has Serious Moonlight hair, and both the writing and voice acting is absolutely first-rate -- ahem. Yes. More about RGB later) and who added great details, along the lines of "Peter/Egon slash with ghosts and adventure would be great, and plz hold the tortured emo wangsting and gazing into each other's aquamarine/jade/crystalline eyes." Yay! said I, and wrote this:

Into Still Water Like a Star
Real Ghostbusters, Peter/Egon, PG.

"I'm not having fun, Egon. And I'm hungry." Peter leaned a little to his left, giving Egon the 'poor pitiful me' look in full-color closeup. "You know not having fun is bad for me."

Many thanks to [ profile] aka_arduinna, [ profile] ltlj and[ profile] therienne for beta, and my love to [ profile] flambeau, who is entirely to blame for the ending.
marycrawford: 13 hour clock icon (herc pensive)
This was going to be a WIP Amnesty post, because this story has been on my harddrive for two years while I poked at it and pestered other people with it. (Clearly, this is why I shouldn't write short PWPs; they just take too long.) But it has an ending and everything, and I like this version well enough to post it without amnesty. *g*

Thanks to everyone who looked at it and said helpful things, and especially to [ profile] elynross for the final beta and for convincing me to post it.

So, [ profile] aka_arduinna gave out a deadline. "Post something every month!" she said.  "Deadlines help!" she said. "Get typing!" she said.

Luckily [ profile] falzalot gave me a great idea for something short while I was panicking, and so I wrote a tag to her wonderful Yuletide story Hercules Ex Machina, which you should definitely go read before reading this, if you haven't already.

Thanks to [ profile] therienne, [ profile] elynross and [ profile] aka_arduinna for beta.

Participating in the Yuletide challenge was so much fun this year. I beta'ed some fantastic stories, did my best to keep deep and dire secrets, and wrote two stories of my own: my assignment and a pinch hit.

Here they are! I've linked to the Yuletide archive, but the stories are also available on my website.

Thank you so much to everyone who commented on my stories - you made my holiday so much brighter with your feedback. (And if you left an email address with your comment, you'll hear from me. *g*)

The Unexpected Affair of the Injured Detective. (Arthur Conan Doyle -- Sherlock Holmes).
PG, slash, Holmes/Watson. Written for Am-Chau.

I've updated my website with two recent Hercules snippets/short stories:

Both of them had been up since yesterday morning.
6 Kb, rated G, written for the International Nap Day Challenge.

Five things the legends got wrong about Hercules and Iolaus.
9 Kb, rated PG, Hercules/Iolaus, written for a Five Things challenge.

plus the twelve HtLJ Livejournal icons I posted earlier this week.

I can take a hint! I was going to work on my yuletide story *cough* but you guys made me write a snippet for Internation Nap Day about Hercules and Iolaus.

I feel soooooooo sleepy now. *yawn* Night!

(PS: thankyouagain for the LJ time and icons. Yay!)
marycrawford: 13 hour clock icon (fingerpointing)
The last of the Five Things! Yes, I slowed down a little on these. *g*
Many thanks to [ profile] aka_arduinna for beta'ing.

For [ profile] swiss_kun:

Five things that make Hercules regret being a hero )

For [ profile] elynross:

Five ways in which Sarah met Jareth again )

And [ profile] therienne gave me "Five things the legends got wrong about Hercules and Iolaus", but it wouldn't stay in the numbered list format; instead it turned into a small story.

I have the Vividcon DVDs, (WOoooOO!) so at some point this week there will be vid recs. Meanwhile, there is TOO MUCH LIGHT IN THIS BAR. Hee. Seriously, you should download this, especially if you are having a bad Monday. It's a Life on Mars vid, but you don't need to know even that much. Walks! No, wait...swaggers!

And there is a miniature Labyrinth vid in that same post, which you should also download and snicker at. And then kill [ profile] absolut3destiny for claiming he made the latter in 'a few hours', because OMG. I know how hard it is to make those bloody muppets lip-synch, okay?

Right, Five Things now:

For [ profile] roo2:

I've updated my website with the results of the drabble request meme: six Labyrinth drabbles, three Stargate: Atlantis drabbles (one of which is a crossover with Labyrinth, yes, I am insane), and one Hercules: the Legendary Journeys drabble.

I reorganized the drabble part of the site a bit, so all the HtLJ ones are now on one page. Found to my surprise that I've done 21 Hercules drabbles. I'm still pretty pleased with some of them, too. *g*

My last three drabbles for the drabble meme. Thanks to [ profile] aka_arduinna for beta and for letting me steal all her lines!

[ profile] wickedwords asked for SGA, Rodney, and 'the stuff of legends'. I may have fudged a bit on that last one, but I did put a story element in that I know she likes...*cough*

These three drabbles belong together, so I'll post them in a row, but the first is for [ profile] marici, the second for [ profile] svmadelyn (or so she claims), and the third is for [ profile] aka_arduinna, who gets a freebie on account of being a wicked enabler and beta for the first two. *g*

Thanks to [ profile] elynross for making the third all better!

[ profile] astolat asked for another Labyrinth drabble (the first two are here).

Thanks to [ profile] elynross and [ profile] aka_arduinna for beta.

It was only a matter of time before Sarah got bored )

Taking a leaf from [ profile] wickedwords' book: I have 6 slots left in the drabble request meme, so if anyone wants a drabble in Hercules: the Legendary Journeys, SGA, Invisible Man or Labyrinth, please comment. You can throw words at me, or characters, or settings, or all three, and be as specific or non-specific as you like. :-)

I offered to write drabbles, and got three takers, so clearly the rest of you are determined to make my life easy. Heee.
Thanks to the versatile [ profile] aka_arduinna for beta on all three!

[ profile] ltlj asked for a Hercules: the Legendary Journeys drabble, with a missing scene for one of her stories. I chose Home Is Where The Heart Is, because I love it so.

[ profile] elynross asked for Labyrinth, with grown-up Sarah meeting Jareth.

After )
marycrawford: 13 hour clock icon (quoi?)
[ profile] ahary has translated my Hercules story Five Things That Never Happened to Iolaus of Thebes, and it's now available in Russian on the Iolausian Corner. I've had some bad experiences with translations that I hadn't even been approached about, but this is different, and a strange and flattering thing - to read your own story in another language, transformed with great skill and sensitivity. I particularly like what she did with Charon, who uses some fantastic expressions that my dictionary doesn't even list.

In talking to Ahary, I was struck by her comment:
Sex scenes and fighting scenes are the hardest for me. We don`t distinguish the same body parts, and even if we do, they often don`t move the same way as in English. I translated a book once where the hero`s stabbed toe was an important part of the plot and I was stuck with "палец на ноге" for hundred plus pages and author didn`t even specify which toe it was. *g*
The word for 'toe' and 'finger' is the same in Russian. So is the word for 'arm' and 'hand', and the word for 'leg' and 'foot'. And this seems perfectly natural when reading Russian novels, but imagine having to translate an English one. Or even a slash story.

Okay, so. Those stories I was supposed to get out of my system during the holidays? They haven't left yet. They're still lurking in the back of my mind and on my harddrive, muttering to each other when they think I'm not looking.

Instead, I wrote something new: a Five Things That Never Happened story. Since they can be read separately, I will post one Thing a day, and then post a link to the whole. Comments would be wonderful.

Many thanks to [ profile] dbw (who wrote the first Five Things story in the fandom, yay!), [ profile] elynross, [ profile] ltlj, [ profile] therienne and [ profile] flambeau for beta'ing, and to [ profile] aka_arduinna for letting me borrow Alonzo.

Okay, so remember how I said I'd finish two of my languishing Hercules: the Legendary Journeys stories? Well, this is one of them. I hope I can manage the other as well. (The longer one. *cough*)

This story is a present for [ profile] falzalot, who gave me the setup for it a long time ago and hardly nagged me to finish it at all. And I wish I could smuggle it in to you right now, inside a cake or something, but failing that, I'll post it and email it as well. Here's to you, and I hope you're better soon!

Many thanks to [ profile] ltlj for beta'ing and letting me use one of her zingers, and to [ profile] elynross and [ profile] therienne for beta and encouragement.

OK, for anyone who somehow missed it, the [ profile] yuletide Obscure Fandom Secret Santa challenge has now posted the names of all the authors on the Yuletide challenge archive. I'll be hunting down a lot of new, unfamiliar, wonderful authors after today.

And I've updated my site with the stories I wrote for the challenge:

This Way To The Egress (Discworld, rated G)
For Djelibeybi, a Discworld story featuring the Nac Mac Feegle, Death, and general mayhem. Many thanks to [ profile] elynross, [ profile] halimede and [ profile] therienne for beta'ing, Highlander quotes and encouragement, and the Online Scots Dictionary and Scottish Vernacular Dictionary for saving my butt. *g*

Slings And Arrows (Hercules: the Legendary Journeys, rated PG)
For [ profile] ltlj, a Hercules/Iolaus story set after the episode Not Fade Away. Again, so much thanks to [ profile] elynross, [ profile] falzalot, [ profile] halimede and [ profile] therienne for very speedy betas.
marycrawford: 13 hour clock icon (IolausLostCity)
First of all, there was the episode Lost City, which had Iolaus saving the day, rescuing an entire city, duelling with bad guys, and wearing blue silk pyjamas and gold beads on his forehead. For some reason, a bunch of us really, really liked this episode. (Screencaps are here. *g*)

Then Randi DuMois posted a missing scene story for Lost City, and it was delicious.

And then [ profile] ltlj wanted comfort for Iolaus, and [ profile] falzalot started giving me ideas, and then the two of them ganged up and made Puss-in-Boots eyes at me, and then I caved and wrote this.

Title: Aftermath (26 Kb, rated PG)
Summary: a 'what happened afterwards?' tag to the episode Lost City.

The story is also up at The Less Than Legendary Journeys (yay!).
