We're in a cold spell this week, colder than it's been in years and years. Normally it would be a source of anxiety for me if I had to go anywhere (because I only use public transport, and almost no trains are running) but in this alternate covid universe where I haven't been on a train since March, it's weirdly fun. We had one thick layer of snow at the beginning of the week, and lots of frost but no snow since then, so it hasn't melted and still looks beautiful in untouched areas. When it's sunny, it's incredibly bright thanks to the snow.
I went out to paint a frozen pond with a small watercolor set for an hour, which was just doable in terms of keeping cold fingers moving, but then I had weird clumps on my brush and realized that my paint was freezing. That was a new one for me. From what I've read, you can use vodka to counteract this problem, but I think I'll just wait until spring, instead.
