I got a comment on my single Dutch language fanfic on AO3, from a university research assistant working in the Netherlands. They don't speak Dutch. They want to feed my work to a "computational model" (that means AI, in case you were wondering).

The project is meant to "train computational models to explore what readers value in a story".

"For his research, Pianzola will use artificial intelligence to analyze millions of stories and their responses, from sites in five different languages -, English, Spanish, Italian, Korean and Indonesian - collected from countries on all continents. That analysis provides a wealth of information about the characters in a story, the genre, what a story is about, how a story is constructed, what themes are covered, as well as what readers from different countries and cultures find important in a story."

This project got more than a million euro from the EU. It's called GOLEM.

You can't make this shit up, at least not if you're an AI.

I'm so mad. Fuck off and leave us to write our stories in peace, can you?

[personal profile] killabeez posted: The Kirk/Spock Fanfiction Archive is Moving to the AO3

Reading about the K/S archive migration, I realized I had once posted a story on the K/S archive that I never copied anywhere else, so today I put it on AO3:

The Wake, (719 words), rated T, no warnings.
Summary: After Spock's sacrifice, Kirk and McCoy share some Romulan wine.

(I also dropped a note to the Open Doors archivists that I was going to import this story myself, so it doesn't get archived twice. More details about what to do with stories you do or don't want to be archived can be found in [personal profile] killabeez' post.)

[personal profile] naye posted: AO3 Update relevant to C-drama fandom

Finally, no more "English as default" for new fanworks! I was one of the people who wrote in to the AO3 Support to request this, and I'm very happy with this update.

There's a new recs comm for Guardian fanworks, which is great, and which asks people who post recs to actually talk a bit about WHY they want to recommend something, and that is my jam. I love reading recs even for stories and vids I already am familiar with, just to see what others think about them.

Welcome to Merit Brush Recs! We are a recommendations posting community for fanworks of all kinds (fic, vids, art, etc.) for 镇魂 | Guardian (both the novel and drama), related RPF, and other projects starring the lead actors, Bai Yu and Zhu Yilong. This includes commercials in which they play characters clearly separate from their own public personas.
For my first rec, I posted Fanvid: Honey Meta Edit by @lola
This is a gorgeous vid using Zhu Yilong's commercial and behind the scenes footage, set to lovely ethereal sensual music that fits him to a T, and including that amazing Time Engraver commercial. The mood is a little subdued and pastel/black&white until 0:36 where the beat kicks in, the color explodes gloriously, and the lyric is "I got your honey, baby" - well YES. Yes, I do believe you do.

I've seen some reference somewhere to a "floating comment box" script for AO3, which makes the comment box hover so that you can copy/paste bits straight into a comment as you're (re)reading a story.

That sounds super helpful, now that I'm delving back into fandom with the current Guardian obsession and trying to leave feedback, but unfortunately I didn't bookmark it and I don't see it on the AO3 browser tools page either. Can anyone assist?

ETA:
Found! And the script adds quote marks and italics to anything you copy/paste, which is fantastic.
