First line drabble meme

Gacked from ltlj and all over my friends list: the meme where you take the first line of someone else's story and use that in a drabble. Any fandom, any rating.

The drabble I did using one of ltlj's first lines is here, and here are a bunch of my own first lines:

Hercules rolled over on the heap of straw and sat up, surprised.

I’m going insane.

Iolaus nearly spit out his wine when he heard the news.

Clotho spins, Lachesis weaves, Atropos cuts.

They'd made an early camp, intending to leave before dawn.

"I hate digging," Iolaus muttered.

The ravine got darker with every echoing footstep.

Iolaus woke because a feather was tickling his nose.

Iolaus counted stars, using the rhythm of Hercules' measured breaths.

Then can I talk you into betaing my rewrite of Mummy Dearest? No one has volunteered to do it on the rljwriter's list. Maybe the 48 pages scared them, y'think?




Hercules rolled over on the heap of straw and sat up, surprised.

"What's the matter, Hero? Expecting someone else?" Autolycus was picking straw out of his hair between shaking it out of his tunic.

"Uh---"

"Snappy comeback. Don't worry. We didn't do anything." He slipped the tunic over his head, muffling the comment, "Not for lack of trying."
