First line drabble meme

Gacked from
ltlj and all over my friends list: the meme where you take the first line of someone else's story and use that in a drabble. Any fandom, any rating.
The drabble I did using one of
ltlj's first lines is here, and here are a bunch of my own first lines:
Hercules rolled over on the heap of straw and sat up, surprised.
I’m going insane.
Iolaus nearly spit out his wine when he heard the news.
Clotho spins, Lachesis weaves, Atropos cuts.
They'd made an early camp, intending to leave before dawn.
"I hate digging," Iolaus muttered.
The ravine got darker with every echoing footstep.
Iolaus woke because a feather was tickling his nose.
Iolaus counted stars, using the rhythm of Hercules' measured breaths.

For you, Mary
Date: 2004-10-08 06:17 am (UTC)Then can I talk you into betaing my rewrite of Mummy Dearest? No one has volunteered to do it on the rljwriter's list. Maybe the 48 pages scared them, y'think?
Hercules rolled over on the heap of straw and sat up, surprised.
"What's the matter, Hero? Expecting someone else?" Autolycus was picking straw out of his hair between shaking it out of his tunic.
"Uh---"
"Snappy comeback. Don't worry. We didn't do anything." He slipped the tunic over his head, muffling the comment, "Not for lack of trying."

Well...
Date: 2004-10-08 10:50 am (UTC)But this was more fun.
Thanks for the great first line!

Iolaus counted stars, using the rhythm of Hercules' measured breath. In, two three, out five six. Hercules was resting easily now, his body healing from the damage done by Hephaestus' arrow. In, eight nine, out eleven twelve. Don't die, Herc. Please, don't die.
Every time Iolaus closed his eyes he found himself reliving the moment when his friend was lying helpless in his arms, an arrow protruding from his chest. His eyes still on the patch of sky that he could see through the barn doors, Iolaus reached over and laid a hand on Hercules' chest. Please, don't ever die.

Date: 2004-10-08 12:12 pm (UTC)Oh yeah, that was nice. I've been hurting for the hurt/comfort lately too.
Re: Well...
Date: 2004-10-08 12:53 pm (UTC)I think Hercules drabbles are the way to go for me, too.
I've got two or three HtLJ stories started (and they've been started for 2-ish years) but I can never seem to find my voice for them. So they collect virtual dust. *sigh*

Date: 2004-10-08 03:44 pm (UTC)Dr. Boyfriend keeps promising that we're going to be independently wealthy one day. Maybe then I can find the time to write. Of course, if I spent less time *reading* fics that would probably help.
