Making my own entertainment.

How sad is it that by now I'm making mental things-to-pack lists for Vividcon when I'm not even going?
Don't answer that.
In other news, I put up screencaps on my site of Full Circle, the very last Hercules: the Legendary Journeys episode, before I went off to Glasgow, but I didn't have time to do a post about it. Here are some highlights, with assorted comments, as always.
The story is that Zeus uses Evander, the little demigod son of Ares and Nemesis, to retrieve Hera from Tartarus. The boy unleashes the Titans as well, Ares gets into the game, and Hercules and Iolaus have to sort things out and deal with a Hera who's quite kindly disposed towards them, having lost her memory for some handwavy reason.
For a season ender, let alone a series ender, this wasn't a particularly spectacular episode. You'd think it would be, since the storyline involved Zeus, Hera, Ares and a bunch of Titans, but as Michael Hurst observes in the DVD commentary, "It's a dinky little episode, really." Part of that is the clunky script, which teeters between silly and pompous, part of it is that the production values on this last season had really taken a nosedive - the CGI looks bad, the costuming sucks (had Ngila Dickinson left? I think so), and everything looks like it's been put together in a hell of a rush.
However, I still liked the episode. Hercules and Iolaus are rock-solid partners to the very end and beyond, there's some good dialogue, banter ("Do we have a funny feeling about this?" "Sure."), humor and even some slashy bits, and I'm very very grateful that the Powers That Be didn't choose to end Hercules the way they did Xena.

Don't look at me like that. I just make the caps. But should someone want to make me an icon of this...*eg*

Yep, I took this cap just to have a good closeup of Iolaus' new earring. I think he carved it out of some monster's vertebra.
...what?

One of the actual slashy bits, where Hercules wakes Iolaus up after they find Evander missing. I love how close together they're lying, and how casual the episode is about it.

One of my favourite moments in this episode.
Hera: "And how are you and I related?"
Iolaus: "Uh..."
It's not every mortal who gets to have Hera as a stepmother-in-law.

"Look, I don't care what you say, we are NOT having a foam party."

I love that Kevin Smith was in this last episode too. It's so hard to believe that he's no longer with us, looking at him here.

"Yep, that's definitely a footprint."

You thought I was done with the suggestive caps, didn't you.

Hercules thought so too.

Aw. Adorable dorks, they are. How can you not love them!

The ending and also the best bit in the episode, where Hercules and Iolaus decide to retire from the hero business. For all of five minutes. Then they decide it's time to go adventuring again and gaze tenderly at each other before walking off into the distance.

Wah. I love my dead gay show.
