Sight of the day

Today I walked down a mostly residential street in the centre of the Hague which was all broken up for some kind of renovation/roadworks; except for the bicycle lane and sidewalk, huge heaps of sand covered the street. Halfway down, there was a small shop which said 'hairdresser/home decor' in the window.
Possibly the shop owners were unhappy about the giant mound of sand directly in front of the shop; possibly they just wanted to advertise. At any rate, they had stuck a barber pole into the middle of the sandhill. It was painted in purple and green stripes, and topped with a white-and-gold carnival mask rather like the ones the Versailles robots wore in Doctor Who.
Why is there never a camera around at such moments?

It really was good to meet you. Actually, I thought I had met you before but had you and Merryish confused in my head.
