New Hercules: the Legendary Journeys Automated Fan Fiction Archive

I've been a bit absent from LJ lately, but that's because I was working on a Neat Fannish Project, and now I'm ready to open it officially, yay!

Delphi, the Hercules: the Legendary Journeys Fan Fiction Archive

What is it?
Delphi is an archive for stories about characters from Hercules: the Legendary Journeys and its spinoff series Young Hercules. And I do mean all characters: Hercules, Iolaus, Jason, Discord, Strife, Salmoneus, Nebula, the Sovereign, Ares...whoever you want to write about.

Gen, het, and slash are equally welcome. The archive does not accept anything involving underage sex or real people. Beyond that, everything else is fair game.

Why a new archive?
This archive isn't meant to replace any other archive, Zeus forbid; it's intended to be a base archive for the entire Hercules fandom, where all people's favorite stories can be found in one place, and a way for authors who don't have their own space on the web to reach more readers. And it's an automated archive, which means authors can upload their stories themselves.

Please upload your stories!
I'm hoping, requesting, and flat out begging everybody in the fandom to upload their stories. All you need is your stories, saved as plain text files; the upload form and the FAQ have the details, but it should be a pretty easy process, and you can preview your story to see if everything looks okay. You don't need to register or join or anything like that.

I'm crossposting this to herc_iolaus and hxyh_announce, and I'm going to look around for more communities which might be interested in this - I don't want to spam anybody, but I do want to let fans of various HtLJ characters and pairings know that the archive exists. Feel free to post this announcement elsewhere, or suggest lists/communities!

Oh, I hope you can locate your stories!

If they're all still up on your webpage, but you don't have text files of them anymore, a good trick is to copy & paste the text of the story to Notepad or whatever editor is handy, and then save that as plain text. The only thing you'd have to add is italics, using the HTML tag, or horizontal rulers if you use those.

(I've been doing this for a bunch of my own stories. *g*)

Having a searchable archive for the fandom will be awesome. It's one of those things that you don't realize is missing until someone creates it.

And it's turned out to be so much fun revisiting the old stories that I'm staying up way to late re-reading them! :-)

A one-stop shop for Herc-Xena fanfic from all ends of the fandom; I like it! It's a great idea.

However, I was going to upload a story, but you don't have a character designation for Deimos. I can probably just label it under Strife, but it's still be nice to list all the main characters. Of course, I say that not knowing if it's even possible to edit the interface. Just thought I'd mention it.

Also, what happened to your screencap site? I went looking for a pic and all of them are gone.

Yep, I'm tackling the interface now. It'll take some html but not all and we're presently arguing over it.

The only other ones that come to mind are Jett and Jace. Jett I would say definitely (and with an admitted bias); there are many, many Jett-centric stories out there. But Jace, well, that's kind of iffy. I can see where you could easily end up adding a ton of minor characters and you really don't want to clutter up the interface that way, I understand that.

Well, of course your site is working just fine now. It only did that to make me look paranoid.

Yeah, the archive only takes pretty basic html like italics, paragraph tags and such; do let me know if you run into problems that I could possibly fix!

The only other ones that come to mind are Jett and Jace.

The thing here is that unlike Deimos, Jett and Jace never showed up in HtLJ, only in Xena (unless my memory is completely faulty!). I do want to keep the main focus on HtLJ characters/stories, so I'm not adding them to the regular characters list. But as long as people submit stories featuring at least one character that appeared in HtLJ or YH, I'm fine with it.

How about Psyche, then? Or Persephone? Persephone doesn't show up much in fic, but she's there, and Psyche's a big one.

The archive and I came to a truce last night over the html. It means I have to completely rewrite the tags in my fic, though, so I won't be uploading too many stories all at once. It's a lot of work.
