The Vividcon Premieres show is over, alas, but on the other hand: that means I can post my vid. Yay!
Fandom: Labyrinth
Music: "Blue Jean" by David Bowie
Format: .avi with the DivX codec
Size: 14.4 Mb
Description: You may find that having is not so pleasing a thing, after all, as wanting.
Download the vid (right-click and save, please!)

I've said it before, but it bears repeating: galumping great thanks to
elynross,
halimede and both halves of
flummery for beta-ing and to
sockkpuppett for teaching me how to mess with motion settings and track mattes at the very last minute. You all rock.
Should you have any trouble playing the vid, I have outlined some solutions on my vids page.
I would love to know what you think, and that includes critical feedback, here or at marycrawford@squidge.org .
I'll probably do a post about the making of this vid later, once I have recovered from Saturday's fantastic family wedding.

Date: 2005-08-21 07:47 pm (UTC)This works so *well*. For the song, for the themes of song and film, and -- God, the chorus bits!
*joy*
Thank you!

Date: 2005-08-21 08:18 pm (UTC)I mean, for a Labyrinth vid to any David Bowie song I would've probably put up with pure shiteful schmaltz
*snrch*
Oh, word. And you know, it occurred to me that people would not like the fact that I didn't pick that kind of song, didn't make that kind of vid - the completely angsty dreamy OMG JARETH IS IN PAIN vid - and I'm so glad to be proven wrong. (Though really? This vid IS that vid. Only on crack.)

Date: 2005-08-21 09:14 pm (UTC)how it's bouncy and lighthearted and yet kind of wistful as well
Oh, I'm so happy you took that from it. When listening to the song on endless repeat, I was struck by how relentlessly upbeat the music is, and the lyrics, but how there's this other, more desperate thread running through the song, and I wanted to use both those flavors in the vid. If that makes any sense.
Thank you very much for the lovely feedback!

Date: 2005-08-28 06:52 pm (UTC)I commented elsewhere that this vid is like a present to my fourteen-year-old self, who saw the movie in the theatre and was bowled over by it. *g*
That reminds me

Date: 2005-08-29 04:33 pm (UTC)Absolutely. I don't claim to be an expert, but I should be able to point you in the right direction, at least. Plus, shoptalk is fun, and I want to see your vid. :-)
Mail me at mcvices at gmail dot com, or I'm rearsandvices on AIM.
And good luck with the exam.
