From Peter David's blog entry about Dragon*Con:

I only got to see one panel the entire weekend: A Buffy cast panel. Danny Strong ("Jonathan") is an extremely funny guy. At one point James Marsters was asked if he was anything like "Spike," and Marsters replied, "Yeah. Spike is the part of me that you get if you f*ck with me." And then Strong piped up, "Same with me! When you f*ck with me, you get Jonathan!" This of course got a huge laugh, and Strong continued, "That's right! You get a short, cranky Jew...oh. Wait. That's actually me. Never mind."

I love that. And Jonathan is such a great character. That one 'Jonathan Rulez' episode (no, I am not the kind of Buffy aficionado who remembers the real title of the episode) had me howling with laughter. Especially the Jonathan Swimsuit Calendar.

Peter David's Trek comics were excellent, but apparently he's now writing humorous fantasy. Including a book called The Woad to Wuin. Good God. Piers Anthony, here we come.

'Jonathan Rulez'
The name for the episode is "Superstar (http://www.buffyguide.com/episodes/superstar/superstarsyn.shtml)"

Don't worry I had to look it up. :)
For the collectors among us, it's season 4, episode 17

I really love this episode,
it has a few of my favourite quotes:

Buffy: Giles, do you have a Jonathan swimsuit calendar?
Giles: No... Yes. I-it was a gift.

Giles (after Xander speaks Latin, setting a book on fire): Xander, don't speak Latin in front of the books.

Xander: So, we're saying that he did a spell just to make us think he was cool?
Giles: Yes.
Xander: That is so cool.

Thanks for the quotes :-)

Bwa! I forgot that one. Love it. Typical of the Buffy writers to put this kind of effort into a throwaway gag, rather than build an episode about the idea.

I think that's one of the reasons why I'm not much into Buffy fanfic. The writers didn't leave much room for improvement in episodes like these.

Sounds like an argument I once had with the GM of one of the RPGs I was playing some years back:
"Never base your RPG on a good book: You'll either be afraid to mar the players 'reality' of the 'world' in question, or you'll have to take severe liberties with your plot to accommodate the players."

She would always base her plots on crappy novelletes with'potential, which worked out fine.

Buffy however so too rich in detail to easily write/play something involving the main charaters.

having said that... There's allways the exception that proves the rule ridiculous.
In my case that's the Free Fudge Buffy RPG...
I'm sorry I would have posted a URL here... but the site no longer seems to exist.

Fudge RPG (http://www.panix.com/~sos/fudge.html) Can be found here for the writers site (http://www.panix.com/~sos/fudge.html) or here for the publishers site (http://www.fudgerpg.com/fudge/index.html)

(please note that the RPG is free, you only pay for the printed matter, so you can also download the PDFs)

The Woad to Wuin is the sequel to Sir Apropos of Nothing. I recommend both books. Nicely dark humor there.

Hmm, now you pique my interest. :-)
I do loathe that kind of punny title, but 'dark humor' sounds good. And I know he can write.

(As humorists go I like Terry Pratchett & Douglas Adams. Can't stand Robert Rankin or Piers Anthony.)
