Dude looks like a lady
OK, so I'm not a dude. But I seldom look like a lady. I don't wear skirts, make-up, heels, or pink.
Today, however, I bought a dress. It's gotten hot enough here (30+ degrees Celsius, which is a lot by Dutch standards) for me to want one.
And I am jazzed! It's a long white sleeveless summer dress, a linen/cotton blend, and I got it for 7 euros at the biggest market in the Hague. Best bargain in months. I could also have bought a white tulle hat to complete the ensemble, but I decided that was pushing it.

skirts: weddings and really special occasions
heels: even though I'm short I hate heels. I prefer my shoes flat thank you very much. My mum always begs me to buy shoes with high heels.
make-up: guilty. The only girlie stuff I like.
pink: GOD NO!!!
My best friend and I always dress casually. Maybe it's because we hang out with boys. Now, on dates, that's a whole different story.
That dress was a bargain. It had to be bought. And dresses can be useful when it's HOT!

Heh. My concession to weddings is that I'll wear a suit or a pretty blouse.
I used to wear make-up, though, mainly mascara & eyeshadow. But I gave it up when I realized that I didn't like my face without it anymore.
I'm short too, and I once had shoes with 12 cm. heels. Those were the block heel kind though, not stilettos. It was fun, but I'm never doing that again. I couldn't even run in them.
These days, I crave workman's boots, the kind that have not only steel toes but a steel shank as well. Waterproof, fireproof, they should last a lifetime. Unfortunately, they don't make 'em for women. (There are some worker's boots in women's sizes, but those are pretty wimpy. All the really cool ones -firemen's boots! - are made only for men, it seems.)

Market bargains rock. I bought a cute t-shirt and two shawls for a euro each. Dappermarkt. Lovely place. :)

As for the firewomen, I have no idea. Maybe they try to make do with men's boots? All I have to go by is the catalogue for one of the major Dutch safety shoe producers, which has about twenty models for men and about three for women. Maybe firemen (firepeople?) have their own suppliers.
