I Love My Show.

Random moments of Hercules love this week. First, rewatching some of Season Four, I came across two hilariously subtexty moments I'd completely forgotten about:

- From Stranger in a Strange Land, in the scene where Ares and Hercules are rumbling while Iolaus and Random Rescued Damsel look on:
RRD, who can only see Hercules being thrown about by some invisible force: "What is happening?!"
Iolaus: "Well, Hercules is fighting Ares-"
RRD: "Over me?"
Iolaus: "No, over me."

- From Web of Desire, the first appearance of Nebula the Sex Goddess (Pirate) Queen: Hercules and Iolaus are about to split up to trap Arachne, so they tell each other good luck & be safe, clasping forearms and looking deeply into each other's eyes. As you do. Only this time Nebula is there, and she starts to laugh as Hercules walks away.
Iolaus, irritated: "What?"
Nebula: “Nothing. Quite a... firm handshake between you two.”
Iolaus: "Yeah, so?"
Nebula: “So, I think it’s great.”
Iolaus: “Well, I’m glad you approve.”
Nebula: “Yeah? So, how long've you two been together?”
Iolaus: “We’ve been partners since we were kids.”
Nebula: “Oh, "partners".”

- and then I had a great time explaining to a stunned [livejournal.com profile] halimede that yes, this really is Iolaus seducing talking to Hercules. Or, as Halimede put it, "I was convinced he was chatting up some babe-of-the-week there."

Right. Back to my HXFQF challenge story now. Rrrgh. Why does plot show up when you least want it to?

http://www.ltljverse.com/imagesp/inebu2.jpg doesn't allow hotlinking, it seems. {pout, pout} <--me likes Nebula.

clasping hands and looking deeply into each other's eyes. As you do.

snrch!

Or, as Halimede put it, "I was convinced he was chatting up some babe-of-the-week there."

*Convinced*, I tell you! And in the actual vid footage, the way he's swirling the drink in his cup, so near his mouth, and that look from under his eyelashes and, and, and! Just... Guh. Typical seduction stuff. Very sexy too. ;)

Right. Back to my HXFQF challenge story now. Rrrgh. Why does plot show up when you least want it to?

Yay, plot! :)

Oh, buggrit, of course LtLJ doesn't allow direct linking - I don't, either. It's a pity that .htaccess files don't seem to be able to distinguish between innocent, friendly A HREF tags and bandwidth-stealing IMG tags, but there you go.

Anyway, go here: http://www.ltljverse.com/pictures.htm#harem (heh, that's a great URL!) and check out the three 'Iolaus and Nebula' pics. They are all scrumptious.

And I'm so glad you enjoyed the infamous cup scene. I will show you the original sometime, oh yes. :-)

{fans self} The pic titled woohoo is fab.

[identity profile] indehed.livejournal.com 2004-08-28 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
ah yes, I remember loving that bit in web of desire. And I tend to think I've never seen Gina Torres so cool as she is in Hercules as Nebula. I mean, Firefly, Clea2525 both cool, but Nebula rocks, man!

Damn, now i wanna watch season 4 again.. huh. I watched season 5 not that long ago. Guess I'm working backwards.

Of course, on of my other favourite subtext scenes is in Darkness Visible when Iolaus tries to bite Hercules. In fact, I think that whole episode had great subtext in it.

And I tend to wonder about how Hercules can continue pretty well without his wife, kids, mother etc, but when he loses Iolaus he gives up on everyone and everything and loses his Way. awwwwww...

[identity profile] barbaraa.livejournal.com 2004-08-28 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Because Iolaus is the one who holds up the mirror for him and points out the zit on his face. lol

Keeps him grounded.

And plot, Mary? It's all because you're a plot fiend. I got my pictures in to HXFQF. Yay!
Of course, they make you downsize the pictures so much that you lose some detail. When I get to make them public access, they'll be bigger files.

Barbara, who should be working on her Mummy Dearest rewrite...or something constructive...

[identity profile] marycrawford.livejournal.com 2004-08-29 11:59 am (UTC)(link)
Ditto on the 'keeps him grounded'. Although I think demigods don't get zits. *eg*

And plot, Mary? It's all because you're a plot fiend.

Nonono! What I am is a procrastination fiend. I am so good at procrastinating (why else am I typing LJ comments instead of story right now?) that all kinds of strange things start happening when I drop the habit for a second. Like plot. I'm a force of nature, really.

I got my pictures in to HXFQF. Yay!

Oh, cool! I'll be very interested to see what you came up with. It's fun to have art as well as stories to look forward to.

I hope you'll like the pics. They aren't photo manipulations.
They are actual sketches...well, one is computer colored. The other is plain old hand and pencils. :)

Of course, on of my other favourite subtext scenes is in Darkness Visible when Iolaus tries to bite Hercules.

Oh good, more subtext! I haven't seen any of season six yet, so that'll be something to look forward to. (I don't have high hopes of the season in general, though.) [livejournal.com profile] ltlj mentioned another bit of subtext in that ep, where Iolaus starts testing the bedsprings when Hercules says "You won't be getting any sleep tonight". Heh.

Hercules losing his way (not to mention some of his marbles) after Iolaus' death was my favorite part of season five. After losing two wives, the kids, his mother and so on, Iolaus was the 'family' he had left, as he said in season four, and losing him sends him over the edge. Pity they didn't follow it up with some good episodes...

heh. I actually rewatched MotM recently, and had forgotten that scene was from there. I was thinking it was Hero's Heart. He is such a flirt. :->

[identity profile] marycrawford.livejournal.com 2004-08-29 11:47 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, you're so right, he is a terrible flirt. And I love how Hercules is saying, "No, stop," with this helpless, I-know-I-should-resist-him-but-I-can't look upon his face. *g*

[identity profile] falzalot.livejournal.com 2004-08-29 11:50 am (UTC)(link)
And then they go out in the barn and wrestle.

What's not to like?!?! :->

[identity profile] marycrawford.livejournal.com 2004-08-29 11:51 am (UTC)(link)
What's not to like?!?!

That they keep their pants on?

Mary, grinning

[identity profile] falzalot.livejournal.com 2004-08-29 11:55 am (UTC)(link)
But dude. They're wearing leather pants. TIGHT leather pants. That makes up for quite a bit in my book. :->

[identity profile] marycrawford.livejournal.com 2004-08-29 12:01 pm (UTC)(link)
This is a very good point. And I just have to use the barn icon again, never mind that I've already used it elsewhere in the thread. Look at Iolaus' ass! So shiny! So...well-displayed!

Mary, who should probably quit typing now *g*

[identity profile] falzalot.livejournal.com 2004-08-29 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Or at least go type in a different window, since we're both awake at the same time. :->

[identity profile] crystal-lily.livejournal.com 2004-08-29 10:43 am (UTC)(link)
I watched MotM today for the very first time *smacks head* (of course I taped it and this time will definitely *not* be the last...). What they were doing in the barn cannot be defined as anything other than foreplay..

You slashy Hercules posts are wonderful. :) Mind if I friend you?

[identity profile] marycrawford.livejournal.com 2004-08-29 11:50 am (UTC)(link)

Wow! Lucky you. *g* That barn scene is one of the slashiest things I've seen anywhere. Foreplay, absolutely. (And if you perchance haven't seen Warrior Princess yet, there is also the half-naked forging of phallic symbols scene to look forward to.)

You slashy Hercules posts are wonderful. :)

Aw, thanks! Glad you enjoy them. :-)

Mind if I friend you?

Please, be my guest! Now I need to go look at your icon some more...

[identity profile] crystal-lily.livejournal.com 2004-08-29 12:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Hehe, of course the image for my icon came from your *wonderful* site. :) There were so many lovely slashy pictures to use, I was overjoyed. :) I just finished making another batch of icons, I need to post them somewhere... *g*

OMG! HOW DID I MISS THAT? I saw the whole WP trilogy a couple of weeks ago (also for the first time, I only got hooked on Hercules during the third season...). Was it at the beginning of the ep? I can't believe I missed that...

[identity profile] barbaraa.livejournal.com 2004-08-30 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, it's the opening scene IIRC.

Very slashy.

[identity profile] marycrawford.livejournal.com 2004-08-31 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the kind words about my site. I hope it inspires many more fanart goodness. :-)

And Barbara is right, it's the scene at the very beginning of the ep. Michael Hurst called it 'homoerotic' in the DVD commentaries, and he was not wrong.

Off to go look at your icons!
