All kinds of demi-god goodness
More gorgeous Hercules desktop art from
dbw here. I love the head shot of Hercules and PissedOff!Iolaus.
And here, a bunch of gen writers (including some of my favorites: Arianna and Melisande) plan to rewrite all the Hercules: the Legendary Journeys first season episodes, including the first five two-hour movies. Why? To make 'em more consistent (but continuity is for wimps! Michael Hurst himself said so! ahaha) and to make Iolaus a central figure in all the eps.
It's wild, it's ambitious, and it's exactly the kind of madly fannish thing that I just love. Like re-editing Star Wars: the Phantom Menace so that there's hardly a trace left of Jar-Jar.
The rewritten episodes are coming in september. I have no idea whether they'll be in script/TV format or genuine stories. I do hope it's the latter. In the meantime, the writers have given us their version of the introduction to each ep:
I hope they don't call him "the Golden Hunter" too much in these new stories - that's a ubiquitous bit of fanon I've grown rather tired of. But otherwise: go, sisters! Go!

But the demigod did not stand alone. Regardless of the dangers, one courageous mortal stood with the Son of Zeus, to face evil and destroy the wicked, to safeguard the innocent and stand for hope in adversity. That mortal was Iolaus of Thebes, son of Skouros, the Golden Hunter...

Actually "Golden Hunter" isn't really fanon. It was used on the licensed Creation Iolaus t-shirts, so it's something that was from the show.
Well, I never..
OK, so it's still overused in fanfic IMO, but that it's actually canon is still pretty damn cool. Wish I had one of those shirts.
BTW, I do love that bit in Where Hellmouths Collide, where Hercules (I think) explains that 'All heroes acquire those names after awhile: I'm the son of Zeus, he's Jason of the Argonauts, she's the Warrior Princess...' and Buffy and Willow practically squeeing over Iolaus being called the Golden Hunter. :-)
Re: Well, I never..
The shirts are incredibly cool. They still show up on ebay occasionally. The image they use is this one (http://www.rtis.com/nat/user/chimera/images1/iwithbow2.jpg) except it has an airbrushed look almost.

Thanks! That whole bit was in there to set up the line about Xander's name being "That Guy with the Slayer, the Watcher and the Witch" and how it wouldn't look great on a t-shirt. :)

Re: Well, I never..
If anyone can tell me the episode the phrase appears in, I'd stand corrected but I think the old Iolausians are right. It is fanon. Like stories in which Iolaus' late wife made his vest. I see that so often and have run into people who thought there was a reference in the show at some point to that effect but there wasn't.

Re: Well, I never..
If the Creation people incorporated a bit of fanon into a t-shirt, well, is it then canon or ain't it? And are T-shirts canon to begin with? Clearly, these are questions for the ages :-)
We should make a list of all the things that are so fanon people think they're canon. The thing with Iolaus' vest is a great example.
And was it ever established on the show that Iolaus is a couple of years older than Hercules?
Iolaus' age

Re: Iolaus' age
(And I agree, of course it's Iolaus, why else would he be so embarrassed? Great moment, that.)
