With. A. Spoon.

[livejournal.com profile] prillalar has started a lovely discussion about the Slashiest Scene Ever in the fandom of your choice. Since I have H:tLJ on the brain these days, I added the infamous scene from Maze of the Minotaur to her thread.

One of my favourite Herc & Iolaus moments, although I dunno about slashiest ever. That whole 'Sword of Veracity' episode where Hercules gets so jealous of Iolaus' latest conquest, that's just as slashy as one big slashy thing. And all the hugs and casual touching. And poor Hercules mourning Iolaus' death like his world has ended. And the dagger-forging scene from Warrior Princess, especially with Michael Hurst's DVD comments.

Ooh, very nice description. And very nice moment. I love it when Iolaus rubs the rim of the cup against his lower lip. Oops, you called it Hercules: the Less Than Legendary Journeys! I do that occasionally too, if I'm not careful.

Other good slashy moment, from the otherwise not so great sixth season: The vampire episode, where Hercules is pacing back and forth in the room, and Iolaus has just sat down on the bed. Iolaus says something about not being able to sleep in this room, Hercules says, "Don't worry, you won't be sleeping tonight." Iolaus bounces matter-of-factly on the bed to test the springs and says, "I thought you were tired?"

Hee, I hadn't even noticed it upon re-reading. I'll leave it as is, due credit to you and yours :-)

I still haven't seen any sixth season episodes, and am not sure I want to. Hmm, maybe I could just watch the scene you describe and skip the rest. "You won't be sleeping tonight," and Iolaus bouncing on the bed, I love it.

Thanks!

The sixth season has some good bits, though there's some seriously bad directing. The fights in "City of the Dead," the Egypt episode, are fantastic, though the dialogue and plot sort of suck, epspecially compared to second and third season episodes. And it's got the "suddenly Iolaus is Joxer" mentality, except in the fights. The first half of "A Wicked Good Day" is charmingly funny, with bunches of wonderful Herc and Iolaus moments. The exchange where Iolaus says "Hey, what do you know about raising teenagers?" and Herc replies "I raised you, didn't I?" comes from there. But the second half of the ep sucks beyond the telling. The vampire episode has some great moments too, but again interspersed with "what the hell?" moments. The last episode "Full Circle" was written by the same dorks that were responsible for the fifth season and all the toliet humor, so it's got some lame bits, but on the whole it's not bad.

Should the sixth season ever arrive on these shores (I doubt it - there aren't even any reruns anymore) I shall use your remarks as Martha's Handy Viewing Guide. ;-)

Mutter. I wish TPTB'd kept whoever wrote the good episodes like Hero's Heart and Sword of Veracity around and dropkicked everyone involved with the fifth season from here to Mt. Olympus. I hate it when series sort of peter out, rather than end strongly and dramatically.

One of the great things about H:tLJ is that Mr. Sorbo and Mr. Hurst knew about the "real" Hercules and were more than willing to play with the "subtext." Unlike in Zener, though, it was fun and just there, no big deal. I think I remember an interview with Mr. Sorbo saying that they joked about the "Untold Journeys." Ah, slashy subtext all over the place. . .Ares did it, too. Watch his twist Deimos' nipples some time. . .
