2021: fanfic year in review

I liked seeing elenothar's fanfic year in review post, and it made me want to do one too.

January
Two stories for fandomtrees:

Threat Level: Bears for laireshi. Guardian, Shen Wei/Zhao Yunlan. The one with the bears.

the food of sweet and bitter fancy for shipperslist. Guardian, Shen Wei/Zhao Yunlan. The one with the outside POV.

February
Three stories for sundial_exchange:

Tailor-made for sakana17. Guardian, Shen Wei/Zhao Yunlan. The one where Shen Wei visits his tailor.

A Tolerance for Pain for xparrot. Guardian, Shen Wei/Zhao Yunlan. The one where Zhao Yunlan is lost and Shen Wei goes metal.

like thunder under earth for dorinda. Guardian, Chu Shuzhi & Shen Wei. The one where Chu Shuzhi is wounded and doesn't need any help from his Lord.

The Wake. Star Trek: TOS, Kirk/Spock. Not actually new fic, this is a tiny dialogue-only story I once wrote for a K/S con.

Two stories for guardian_wishlist:

Seamless for sakana17. Guardian, Shen Wei/Zhao Yunlan. The sequel to Tailor-made: Shen Wei takes Zhao Yunlan to his tailor.

spoils of war for sasamelons. Guardian, Zhao Yunlan and Da Qing. The one where Da Qing leaves Zhao Yunlan a present.

October
The Catboy's Day Off. Fanfic for an original AO3 series. Irredeemable filth. The one where a catboy gets more help than he can handle.

Most of the year I've also been working on a Guardian AU in fits and starts (the one where Shen Wei is an art teacher and Zhao Yunlan becomes his model). I really hope that I can post it in 2022, I want to get the plane out the hangar!

And from this list, it's quickly evident how much I enjoy fanfic challenges and writing treats for people; having a deadline to work up to has been a saving grace in a year when it's been so hard to concentrate and get anything done. I have a story for fandomtrees this year, too, but it won't be live until tomorrow.

I think these end of year lists really help, because in hard years it's easy to feel like you didn't do anything (at least it's that way for me.)

Yes! I didn't realize it would work that way, but I do feel like I did actually do some stuff, after making the list.
I know you already did one, but I think you could do another 2021 in review, just to add And Hey I Won a Hugo, Twice (I'm enjoying your triumph vicariously, it's so satisfying!)

Oh, thank you! Yeah, I should probably do something like that. I've just been moving really slow lately, having holiday doldrums or something.

Aw, I hope you feel better! It's that cold dark time of the year (on this side of the hemisphere anyway) and I always find it affects my mood as well as energy.

Something to look forward to tommorrow! Which I'm particularly glad about because I moved somewhere with consistent snow and minus degrees in winter and I need things to distract myself from the grimness...

Very intrigued by this, too! I'd be very pleased to see that plane flying :D

Oh, and since we talked about respective feet dragging re: long fics before, I thought I should mention that I've settled on trying to continue the weilan accidental marriage AU now that I don't have any other plot bunnies/exchanges clamouring for my attention (even if I am sad there was no Sundial this year, since I just missed it last year). We'll see how it goes...

Oh, sympathies, especially if this is a new thing - I love snow, but mostly as a device for creating hurt/comfort scenarios rather than in real life, especially in the city. (The story for tomorrow is hopefully Very Relevant to your situation, we shall see!)

Oh yessss I am glad to hear it! Love the accidental marriage theme, and I look forward to it.
I feel the same way about Sundial, btw - I hesitated about contacted the mods, because this past year has been A Lot for everyone. But it's a lovely exchange and I hope it comes back this year.

Moved to a city too, which I'll spent at least the next year regretting. I much living somewhere with more nature than people. Very Relevant fic usually helps though 👀

The chapter where the accidental marriage actually happens is already written. I just lack... everything else, including all of the things that need to get fixed so canon isn't *waves hand* like that.
