Aubrey and Maturin onscreen

The first reviews for Master and Commander are up at Ain't It Cool News.

That one reviewer who has not read the books says that "Aubrey has an extremely close relationship with his ship's doctor, played by Paul Bettany" gives me hope.

I'm so glad that there are movies based on favorite books coming up that I actually want to see, instead of travesties like League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. (Read the comic instead. Please. It's really really good.)

On the downside, it does sound from the reviews as if they left out Aubrey's rescue of Stephen from the clutches of the you-know-whats, and if that's the case, I wnoder if they left in Stephen's moonlighting career as a you-know-what.

Ah, well.

Hmm, good point. If Stephen's career as a wossname is not in there at all, I won't be happy. It's an essential side of his character, otherwise he's just the eccentric doctor who doesn't know a frigate from a xebec.

Mary, who doesn't either

This is just a random post to say that I've been meaning to tell you for awhile now that I love your icon. I have no clue what it is or what it's from, but it's cool. :-)

Hey, thanks! Way to put a smile on my face :-)

It's a sketch by Brian Froud of the thirteen-hour clock in the movie Labyrinth, which I love with a mad passion. (The movie, I mean, not the clock. Although I like the clock a lot too.)

I really do have hopes for this one. My husband and I only manage to go to a handful of movies a year (things always seem to come up) and this is one of them that we have on our list of "have to see at the theater."
