New HtLJ screencaps: "Mother of All Monsters"

Here are some screencaps and comments for the second season Hercules: the Legendary Journey ep "Mother of All Monsters"; the rest of them are up at my site. It's very hot and I think my brains have melted, so this will be rambly.

These are especially for [livejournal.com profile] cyloran, who requested caps of the hurt/comfort scenes, yay! Such a hardship. *g* This episode is the Mother of All Hurt/Comfort eps, seriously. And it's not Iolaus who gets hurt this time, but Hercules, which is pretty unusual in the series. I don't think there is another episode with Hercules in pain for most of the time, with Iolaus watching and worrying at his bedside, not to mention pulling arrows out of him, and saying things like 'Please don't die'.

Anyway, of course I remember all the h/c bits, and how I have to fast-forward through any of Echidna's speeches or lose the will to live, but rewatching this episode I really noticed how awesome Alcmene is in it. I like Liddy Holloway (RIP) the best of the several actresses who played Alcmene. Hercules comes home after a too-long absence, finds his mother canoodling on the couch with a total stranger, gets huffy and tries to grab the moral high ground, and she smacks him down in two seconds flat. I love it.

I love how Hercules veers from worried to pissed-off to petulant, and how Iolaus keeps trying to get him to act like a grownup. I also love this bit with much love:

Iolaus: “You know, you're probably gonna like him once you get to know him.”
Hercules: “We’ll see.”
Iolaus: “Give your mother some credit for having good taste.”
Hercules: “Good taste? She fell for Zeus, remember?”
Iolaus: “Yeah, but he’s a god. He’s handsome-- ”

Hee hee. She fell for Zeus! Plus Hercules looks horrified when Iolaus calls his dad handsome. (And we know Hercules' dad likes short, feisty blondes...*ahem*)

All this and hurt/comfort, and Serious Conversations about how Iolaus loves Hercules (wait for it...'like a brother') and tentacles. With, um. Breasts.

Not to mention the tentacle wipe (a special effect where the tentacle moves across the screen, slowly 'wiping' what came before). I really, really wanted to use that in my Hero vid, but couldn't quite make it work. Alas.

I did mention the h/c?

Yes, I made more than one screencap of this scene.

Aaaannd this one.

And this one, despite the weird blue filter that really doesn't look like night time. At all.

I love the bit where they're outside Echidna's cave:

and the entire dialogue is, "Got a plan?" "Ohhh yeah."

Somehow this translates to, "Iolaus, for your information, cutting the bowstrings will make Hera's Archers disappear, so I suggest you go do that while I stand around and act like bait. Try to cut the last bowstring juuuust before I get shot again. Okay? Okay."

Oh, and this episode inspired The Price, an Iolaus/Ares story by Valentin which is hot like a very hot thing and manages to fix a plot problem at the same time. An old favorite that still holds up.

I love this episode. And y'know, I was thinking of you before I saw this post -- Edwin just brought in Stroopwafels. :-> They must be even yummier when they're fresh!

Eee, stroopwafels! And yes. Very yummy. Ask Martha, I brought her some for Worldcon. *g*

If I ever make it to VVC, I'll bring you some too...

God, those things were delicious! Like little portable waffles with syrup.

MMMmm. I've had those before. About a year and a half ago a local bakery opened where I work, and they liked us so much they used to drop off a package a week, just for us. *g* Too bad they closed.

I love this episode, especially cause we get to see Iolaus being all worried and concerned, something that was in wayyy short supply.

Mmmm, stroopwafels. You realize you guys are somehow tying Iolaus and stroopwafels together in my mind, right?

*looks slightly worried*

That's cause you know he'd be allll over them, making really sexy eating moans. And Hercules wouldn't be able to help himself, he'd have to grab Iolaus and fuck him right then and there. Because he can't resist Ioaus when he gets like this. Heck no one could.

Hi! I found your LJ a while back when I was going through my recent H/X-love obsession. (Still going through it actually.) I have a quick question about this episode.

In the bloopers on the season 2 DVD pack, there's a small bit that I think fits onto the end of this scene where Kevin is lying "unconscious" on the ground after Iolaus pulls the arrow out, then the director yells cut. Don't we hear Michael says something like, "You gave me nothing! Nothing!" And Kevin starts laughing. Did I hear that right? Is that what Michael says?

Hmm, that question was oddly specific. Wasn't it?

P.S. I love your Hero vid!! :-D

Hey, this is no intrusion - I'm always happy to talk to other HtLJ fans, and I'm glad you liked the vid. :-)

You know, I always thought that blooper reel bit was from the end of 'Pride Comes Before A Fall', where Hercules is sitting against a well pretending to be asleep, waiting for Iolaus. But you're right - it's the Mother of All Monsters scene, I checked and I can tell by the stones he's lying against. And yeah, person offscreen says, "You gave me nothin'!" I'm not sure if it's Hurst or the director talking. But I can understand the sentiment, Sorbo looks like he's sleeping peacefully and he's not doing a very heavy job of acting, there. Heh.

Man, I love that blooper reel. I'm so glad they put it in the DVD set.

Oh, is that what the person meant? I thought he said, "You gave me nothin!" because Kevin gives a pretty good realistic scream when the arrow is ripped out, and Michael was being facetious. You can never tell with those two. They're like two 12 year olds sometimes.

I love that blooper reel too. I know it's a long one, but I wish they had included more than one throughout the set. The Xena DVD series comes with 3 different blooper reels. Okay, now I'm pouting. I'll be quiet now.

I have mentioned that I love it when you post screen-caps with comments, haven't I? Well... I still do. ;-)

Hey, thanks! I'm glad you're still enjoying them. :-)
