Meeeeeeeeme

The memes that people ask you to do are the most evil of all, so blame [livejournal.com profile] falzalot.

For me, this whole meme seems to be vidrelated. I have become hopeless addled by vidding - when I hear a song that appeals to me, I start thinking about ways to vid it, or agonizing about not being able to. I think this is why many good vidders are multifannish - it gives them more options. *g*
Me, I can't think of many fandoms I could actually vid apart from Hercules, and they're mostly things like Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean, which aren't exactly easy in terms of finding the right song, either.

Total volume of music files on my computer:
15 Gb, 3230 songs. I've been burning and deleting stuff to make room for vid files and source, too - those eat up your harddisk like whoa.

Last CD I bought:
Tanglewood Tree, by Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer. Highly recommended folk music (and now I hope I got the category right so as not to offend [livejournal.com profile] sisabet *g*). This is vidrelated too - I discovered this duo thanks to [livejournal.com profile] melina123's gorgeous LOTR vids.

Last song I listened to before doing this meme:

Blue Jean, by David Bowie. I'm not sure it counts, because this is my present vid song, and I listen to those hundreds of times over the course of making a vid. And no, I'm not revealing the fandom for this one yet. Because I'm evil that way.

Five songs I listened to a lot this week:

These aren't all songs I'm going to vid (ha! In spite of all my talk, I am the world's slowest vidder) or that I've even thought seriously about vidding, but ... yeah, the thought was there: Ooo, what fandom would work with this? I can't help it.

Run On For A Long Time, by the Five Blind Boys of Alabama. Incredibly cool, edgy performance of a traditional gospel song, with a very non-fluffy message: Tell the gambler the rambler the backbiter, tell them God almighty gonna cut 'em down... God is a homicidal stalker. This song I just don't have a fandom for.

An Occasional Man, by Sarah Vaughan. I've had vague ideas about vidding this for POTC, but I really don't think I could make it work. It's a very sexy song about life on an island in the Pacific (not the Caribbean, but never mind *g*), and I love Sarah Vaughan's voice with its sensual swoops and dives.

Pirate Jenny, by Nina Simone. Best jazz reworking of a Kurtz/Weil/Brecht song I know - I love the original "Piraten Jenny" from the Dreigroschen Oper, and I love this version, with Nina Simone at her angriest. And no, I really can't vid this to POTC, can I? It would just be wrong. And anyway, the story this song tells is complete on its own. "You toss me your tips/and look out to the ships/But I'm counting your heads/as I'm making the beds"... If you happen to be feeling vindictive, this is your theme song.

I Go Like The Raven, by Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer. Usually I like their slow songs better, but this fast fiddle song is just irresistible, and the lyrics are beautifully written. Over the dark and dervish sky, I go like the raven.

I Found A Reason, by Cat Power. She has the most beautiful, vulnerable voice, but this song is slow and repetitive, and would it ever make a good vid for anything? Probably not. It's so gorgeous, though.
