What I Did During The Blackout

Heh. I love that we're calling it a blackout. It sounds like we were all stumbling around in the dark, wearing white nighties and clutching candles. (Apparently my brain lives on cliché's: in real life I wear PJs or nothing, and I would employ a Petzl headlamp, not candles. But anyway.)

- messed around with Prince Hercules, the Real Legendary Journeys episode I'm writing. I should have it ready for beta by tonight.

- messed around with the Live Till I Die vid again to get it in the right form for Escapade (vid guidelines are up!) and I'm going to have to bother [livejournal.com profile] flummery until I understand bitrates. It's not going to be pretty, y'all.

- finally watched Ocean's Eleven. I didn't want to watch it for ages because I thought it was a submarine disaster movie (you know, and then it sank, and they built another one and called it Ocean's Twelve. What?) and now I did, and it was great, with excellent dialogue and a fun, exciting plot. The only thing I did not like about it was the bit where George Clooney gets the girl (and they actually called Julia Roberts 'the girl', ergh) by being a manipulative bastard, not to mention a stalker. Eek. Apparently, this is what being romantic means, to some. Also, is it me or did Julia Roberts look really thin and unhappy in that movie? George Clooney, OTOH, is slowly morphing into Cary Grant before my eyes.

I ran into Ocean's 11 when I was home and watched it, as I was in the same room as someone who was watching it. Julia Roberts' role totally nauseated me -- does that woman make a career out of playing nothing but idiot bimbos or what? And yes -- she looked cadaverous. I mean, her eyes were sunken. That's supposed to be pretty?

Okay -- that cracked me up! :-)

My husband and I avoided it as much as possible (but then succumbed and saw it at the theater) because we both had vivid memories of the "Rat Pack" original version and couldn't visualize the story with George Clooney/Brad Pitt and set in the current Las Vegas. I enjoyed the remake, but my husband hated it.

I've never watched it because I really don't like Julia Roberts and Brad Pitt and George Clooney (as hot as they are) aren't enough to make up for having to see her. (I feel the same way about a couple other actors, fortunately they, like her, don't make too many movies.)

Yeah, it's kind of scary, what's passing for romance on TV and in the movies these days.
