I am SO DONE

I went to a physio yesterday, which is pretty much the biggest physical risk I've taken all year. To find a maskless guy in the waiting room, who then turned out to be confused about what day his appointment was on and had to be gently escorted out.

Today I had to get groceries, which I try to space out to once in two weeks, and neither the cashier nor the elderly lady in front of me in the queue were masked up. I am SO FUCKING FED UP with people just ignoring masks and distancing and ventilation, and I'm afraid it's only going to get worse. Nobody wears a mask outside here, just in stores and public transportation, and apparently even that is too much to ask now.

The Netherlands is at the very bottom end of the EU in terms of scheduled vaccinations, and I will be damn lucky if I get a first shot before July. My elderly parents are scheduled to get their two shots in April and May, and I hope that goes as planned.

Oh, and yes, I'm on an online grocery delivery waiting list. I'm number 2050 on the list for my area. Yey.

*hugs* I've started thinking that I want the masking/distancing/etc. restrictions to be over not because I'm sick of the restrictions themselves but because I'm so fucking tired of feeling furious with people who don't observe them. Japan is better off than NL in that sense, but numbers in my city are spiking because, as far as I can tell, some people think going out drinking is more important than common sense. aaargh.
Hang in and hope for the best, is all we can do at this point...

I have also been floored by your country's policy this year, especially with how long they resisted masks. (My best friend in the Netherlands works in a care home, and the virus worked its way through all the staff and most of the residents before they realized that co-workers hanging out in break rooms together unmasked was probably not wise, no matter what the government was saying.)

BIG YES to that. It would be better for me to find a way to be chill about it, but frankly if I didn't manage that at the beginning of the pandemic, chances are slim that I'm going to manage it now. *hugs* Yeah, I can imagine Japan being the polar opposite to the NL when it comes to wearing masks in stores, but I'm sorry to hear that people are still doing dumb stuff, oy.

Thanks for the sympathy! Yikes, I'm sorry about your friend, hope they're ok. They must feel awful about all of this.

And yeah, the government has been inexcusably slow and wishy-washy and confusing/misleading in its messaging and policies. Long after I was reading about ventilation studies on covid etc, they were still ignoring masks and saying "keep 1.5 m distance and all will be well". And then it wasn't, whoops. Surprise. I'm so salty about it all and super, super disappointed in people I thought were smarter and more competent than this.

Ugh, I'm sorry. It's so exhausting when people are so stupid about the really simple precautions, like criminally dangerously stupid, and it feels like there's nothing anybody can do about it.

Ugh, I am SO sorry that you have to endure that. I always think of Europe as so much better than us, but everyone in my neighborhood seems to wear masks, even walking their dogs where they could easily move six feet away from people. Every once in a while I see people like the hipster dudes I encountered the other day who had no masks and made no effort to keep away from me, but for the most part, I'm realizing I'm incredibly lucky to not have to run into these people. It's just so enraging. It's such an entitled and shitty attitude.

That's awful, and I'm sorry you're forced to deal with assholes who don't care about anyone but themselves. I've said it before, but... this pandemic has really shown us how many narcissistic sociopaths there are in society worldwide, and the numbers are way higher than I ever expected. {{{you}}}

Oh that is really good! I admit I am used to people not wearing masks outdoors, here, and mostly fine with that because the risk is so low outdoors, afaik. But then some dirtbag jogger comes right by me, huffing and puffing and not moving out of my way, and I am not fine with it anymore. I'm glad you don't get a lot of those types where you are.

And the thing about Europe is - it really doesn't exist, as far as attitudes/culture etc goes, we're just all over the place. Our immediate neighbor Belgium has been doing much better, because people there are apparently more willing to wear masks and take care of each other than we are. /o\

*hugs* You're damn right, and I wish you weren't. I've really noticed how much my general opinion of society/humanity has lowered during this past year, and I'm not sure it's good for me. Thanks for letting me vent!
