Some things we missed out on in Lost Tomb Reboot
I came across this list of scenes that were cut from Lost Tomb Reboot, from Espresso SeokJin on Youtube. I pasted the contents below, because it's a Youtube Community link and doesn't work on mobile:
"After WuXie says goodbye to his uncle, he breaks down lighting the last of his matches."
I hate that we didn't get this! I felt like that little match-ritual was left unfinished, while I was watching the show. It needed a capstone scene, and this makes it clear that it was intended to have one, and you know Zhu Yilong would have sold that scene in the most quietly devastating way.
Also "The Iron Triangle have a heart to heart before the final battle scene. Believing if this is the end then they’re happy to be going out together as they want to. Cut for time."
Gah, that episode had so many ending scenes for all the various plot threads, and I feel like half of those could easily have been shortened, they dragged on and on, and the Iron Triangle did not deserve to be cheated of this moment. I know they did have a lovely scene before going out to fight, but it was so short!
And then there's "PangZi and XiaoGe stay at WuXie’s bedside after bringing him back from the hospital" which was also cut for time, apparently, or maybe for other reasons. Sigh. I know the censorship in China is horrendous, and I'm glad we got what we did, but still.
"Some notes on the unreleased/deleted Reunion scenes. Listed here from the leaked low quality footage after both seasons were aired. The rest were from stills and notes, translated.Assuming this is accurate, I'm sad we had to miss some of them - particularly
Bonus: 2) Episode 3 - Season 1: When on the hill side and PangZi is searching for who is “mystifying” he hits and breaks a brick on XiaoGe’s head. XiaoGe is visibly angry and hurt, he pushes PangZi’s hand away and WuXie orders PangZi to apologize which leads to disagreements and such
1) On the train - when XiaoGe emerges from the compartment he gazes around until seeing WuXie. He then stares at him for 2+ minutes and smiles to himself peacefully until WuXie turns to look back and smile at him. It’s very subtle, likely cut for time.
2) unreleased scene was when XiaoGe was at the reopening of WuXie’s antique store. This was cut because of continuity in the plot. (Or if he’s in the same room as Daofu - the universe will explode).
3) PangZi confronts the assassin, A’Ning’s brother, and tries to kill him but WuXie stops him. CiaoGw calms him down and WuXie down. This occurred in the forest when they were in their jumpsuits.
4) During the iron triangle’s little dinner party made by XiaoGe. The deleted scene includes WuXie and XiaoGe listening to the radio broadcast which mentions a mountain - one WuXie and XiaoGe have a close connection with as stated in the other dramas and books. WuXie and XiaoGe smile at each other and laugh, before going back to their food.
5) When emerging from the well in the tomb being pulled up by Liu Sang & Manager Bai - after XiaoGe emerges and bring WuXie up, WuXie recoils from the manager and holds on to XiaoGe as PangZi is brought up with glasses. Removed because “character conflict to plot”
6) In the scene by the campfire when WuXie sees CiaoGe watching him from across the water - holds up a medallion to XiaoGe (maybe connected to the nine clans, please correct if wrong). This is a nod to the movie Time Raiders, screenplay written by the author, where XiaoGe asks for the medallion from WuXie - a way of reminding him if/when he loses himself again. In Reunion WuXie means to return this to XiaoGe in the event of his death, XiaoGe will still have something to bring him back. That part was cut for plot flow purposes.
7) WuXie’s hallucinations in the wooden hotel scenes involving XiaoGe were more intense & bloody. WuXie experience his other fear - XiaoGe
not remembering him and ultimately that destroys him. (This was hinted at in The Lost Tomb 2) Cut for time, because too intense, and maybe too suggestive.
8) After WuXie says goodbye to his uncle, he breaks down lighting the last of his matches. (Long Ge also burnt his fingers each time he did that scene but like a warrior he acted through it because wow?).
9) because of almost dying WuXie has a new outlook on life, but so does the iron triangle - the implied storyline is that PangZi and XiaoGe will “live with WuXie” at his base/antiques store. More over XiaoGe may return to the mountains from time to time. Cut because suggestive. Cut also for time.
10) XiaoGe tries to save A’Ning in the flashback scene by killing the snake with his sword. But it is too late. WuXie’s stick didn’t do much. The others return to find XiaoGe standing over her body as WuXie holds her. Cut because time & plot flow(?)
11) The Iron Triangle have a heart to heart before the final battle scene. Believing if this is the end then they’re happy to be going out together as they want to. Cut for time.
From Season 1:
1) In episode 3 when WuXie & PangZi escape the tomb from a mudslide, XiaoGe is buried alive in the mud and dirt. WuXie presumes he died fighting the snake creature. He is frantically searching but is stopped as an arm appears holding a sword and XiaoGe emerged digging himself out. He then stands on his knees in the ditch and roars at the sky as the rain pours, holding the snake’s head and his sword. Like an old school warrior.
“Cut from time”
2) In episode 17 the princess doll attempts to assassinate WuXie. He is saved by PangZi, XiaoGe and Liu Sang.
3) XiaoGe and WuXie have a moment alone on the beach as they are planting the land mines for Liu Sang. XiaoGe walks around swinging his shovel and WuXie speaks. Of what is unknown as the audio was muted. Cut for time.
4) XiaoGe tries to confront Jiao’s men but Glasses stops him. Cut for plot reasons, maybe an ooc moment.
5) PangZi and XiaoGe stay at WuXie’s bedside after bringing him back from the hospital.
Cut for time.
~That all collected so far. These are all from the socials, with clips scattered hear and there. It is known that there were many unaired episodes and cut content. I have been collecting these for some months and thought to share."
