Watching 'Prometheus'

I was watching Prometheus the other day (the Xena episode that crosses over with Hercules) and I haven't made any screencaps yet, but

[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: now I will watch Iolaus put the moves on Gabrielle
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: Iolaus walks in, owns Gabrielle with a smirk, and then goes
[livejournal.com profile] elynross: well. he really is adorable.
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: "I'm looking for a friend of mine. He's tall...broad shoulders...big arms...
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: very handsome..."
* [livejournal.com profile] elynross dies.
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: Gabrielle looks a bit worried now.
* [livejournal.com profile] marycrawford adores muchly
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: big arms! he said that! heeee
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: "Why are you looking for Hercules?" says Gabrielle.
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: Iolaus, looking modest:
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: "I have something he needs."
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: uh-HUH.
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: Gabrielle then asks just how well he knows Hercules...
[livejournal.com profile] elynross: bwaaaaa!!! "something he needs," I BET.
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: he looks down when he says it, too. hee hee
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: I forgot there is then the bit where Xena comes in, who Iolaus has all this history with, of course
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: and Gabrielle is all shiny-cheerful: "Xena! Guess who he knows!"
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: Xena, darkly, grabbing her sword tight: "Hercules."
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: Gabrielle: "Oh, you're so GOOD!"
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: hee.
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: I also love that in the very next scene, Gabrielle has already extracted all of the Iolaus/Xena backstory from Xena, the world's most taciturn heroine
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: oo, look, guys with horns on their heads.
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: now Iolaus, Herc and Xena are all fighting the hornéd guys together
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: it takes Iolaus app. three heartbeats to lose his sword on the floor.
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: is it wrong of me that I really like seeing Iolaus hit people in the face?
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: this is really a very nice fight sequence. mm.
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: okay, Xena stamping guys in the groin is fun too.
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: now we get to the nice bit where Iolaus is hurty and bleeding and decides not to tell anybody
[livejournal.com profile] elynross: since when is Iolaus stoic? *g*
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: which is dumb, but v. heroic
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: it kind of works here, because he knows he can't heal, and Hercules can't do anything for him
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: it's kind of cute how Gabrielle and Xena say goodbye versus Hercules and Iolaus
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: Gabrielle is all tearfully clasping Xena's hand, with Xena looking a bit impatient and saying 'Be brave!'
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: and Iolaus says goodbye very firmly, with Herc protesting that Iolaus won't die of his wound
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: and Iolaus says Yeah, but even if I survive -
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: it's all in the eyes and the firm shoulder clasp. heh.
* [livejournal.com profile] marycrawford likes the manly angst! cough.
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: whoops, Herc, don't let Xena bash you over the head -- too late.
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: didn't your mom tell you not to trust dark women in leather?
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: and here is the bit I love
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: where Gabrielle retells Aristophanes' origins of mankind story
[livejournal.com profile] elynross: one into two?
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: yep
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: and she's telling it to a dying Iolaus as they wait for Xena and Herc
[livejournal.com profile] elynross: awwww.
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: it's pretty obvious that she's thinking of their other halves :)
* [livejournal.com profile] elynross grins.
[livejournal.com profile] elynross: what lovely shows.
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: it's nice because they don't name Plato or anything, it's just a story Gabrielle tells
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: I like throwaway references like that.
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: of course, now we get monsters coming from green eggs
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: just in case we thought it was getting too intellectual.
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: seriously, guys, cut this scene and get back to the ANGST
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: oh look, a pterodactyl.
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: we have a giant immortal in chains, green egg men
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: and apparently someone thought
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: what this scene needs? is a PTERODACTYL.
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: okay, it's there to fill a plot hole, but.
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: Xena, don't hit the bird that's carrying you in the face.
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: and now Hercules finally has a sword but still manages to punch people out instead.
[livejournal.com profile] elynross: you know, you just don't often have shows like that.
[livejournal.com profile] elynross: that need pterodactyls to fill plot holes.
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: you wonder why!
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: Xena? do not stab the bird you are sitting on in the neck
* [livejournal.com profile] marycrawford sighs
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: she never learns.
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: oh, sure, rely on Hercules to catch you. that's cheating!
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: what if he missed!
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: okay, see, I almost forgive them for missing the angst moment because Iolaus has such a lovely smile there
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: but they totally should NOT have missed that moment.
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: hmf.
[livejournal.com profile] marycrawford: wow, Prometheus has impressive thighs.

The angsty moment I'm talking about is of course the one where Gabrielle and Iolaus are waiting in the cave and the torch starts burning again, which, to them, would mean that either Xena or Hercules has just died to free Prometheus.

The writers over at the Iolausian Library had a challenge to write this missing scene, ages ago: I like Melisande's version, which hits all of my angst and h/c needs very nicely. *g*
