Heh, I don't mind if you give stuff away, but if anyone wants to remain unspoiled, go read the story now. *g*

That's a very interesting question, about the 'yours'. I was thinking about that part of the story this morning on my way to work, without having seen your question yet, and it occurred to me that yes, the obvious thing would have been for John to say 'Mine'. Because he's the one on top, isn't he? And he's definitely being 'dominant', or 'aggressive', and that's what you might expect to happen. That's the way it does happen in slash, often, I think.

Instead, he says 'Yours' and that bit, combined with the image of the gun barrel is what makes the story come together for me, what hits me in the gut with the unexpected rightness of it. Because this is John, not some alpha male prototype, and he's not, to my mind, so much claiming McKay as giving up the fight to pretend that he doesn't care, that he isn't vulnerable to losing McKay. He loves McKay, and it leaves him naked, just like not having the sunglasses on leaves him open, and he admits it by saying 'Yours, damn you', and that's...a really powerful moment for me.
